It is so easy for us to forget take care of ourselves.  We are often so busy taking care of those around us that we tend to overlook our own needs.

We don’t eat properly, suffer from lack of sleep, get stressed and overwhelmed – and yet maintain the expectation that we have to keep going ….and expect that we can continue to live on autopilot.

When you ignore and neglect your own legitimate needs it has the potential to lead to illness and burnout.

We all tend to live busy lives and it can feel like a luxury if we take a break to look after ourselves. Then there is the belief that if we just keep going and push ourselves to the point of exhaustion, we will be more successful, more appreciated and a better person. Really?

Is that really the case?

Is this what the inner critic little voice in your head is telling you? Is it telling you you don’t have enough time or you are not worthy taking time out to pamper yourself?

When we neglect our self-care, it is harder for us to function at our optimum level. We are more at risk of developing burnout and allowing stress to overtake us. So it is vitally important we take the time to look after ourselves.

So what do we mean when we say  -make time for self-care?    

Self care is any sort of activity that we deliberately choose to do to take care of our physical. emotional and mental health.  The habits or practices that are crucial for us to get the best out of our everyday life.

For example, it is important to exercise and look after your body  no matter how busy you are. There are many forms of exercise so it is a matter of finding one that you can slot into your lifestyle and schedule.

Your exercise could be combined with yoga or mindfulness to gain of our thoughts and emotions.

Make sure you get plenty of sleep as this has a major impact on how you feel both physically and emotionally.

And of course be aware of your diet and what you are fuelling your body with.

The key to improved mood and reduced anxiety is good self care practice, as well as a key to maintaining a good relationship both with oneself and others. Good self-care is the key to a good relationship with oneself and others as well as improved mood and reduced anxiety.
