Habits and Routines – Why They Are Important

Now that you have your new morning plan in place its time to put it into action so it becomes your new morning routine. This is really important because we want this to become your new habit. Research tell us it takes 21 days for a new habit to form a new routine. We want to ensure you new plan becomes habitual and you want to do it everyday. A routine will ensure that happens

However it takes a lot of willpower and mental energy before something becomes a habit or a routine. It takes drive to create new morning habits but the good news it once they are established they will become as automatic as brushing your teeth before bed.

Stick To Your New Routine

Once your new working routine is established in the morning and working for you, stick to it for several weeks. Before you realise it, it will have become you new normal. There will be no need to remind yourself of what to do each morning as it will have become a new habit and routine that you follow on autopilot.

There will be less effort and mental prep-talk to get things done. You will start to embrace you new routine – perhaps your early morning run or getting up  30 minutes earlier to work on your business before breakfast.

Life tends to overtake us at time however so beware of moments when you slip back into your old routines and habits. This can happen so easily and catch us unaware.

It might be something like you’ve been doing well with waking up 30 minutes earlier and going for a run before you start your day.

Then one day you oversleep and can’t make it out there.

Or the weather turns yucky, you get the flu or injure yourself. Or life just gets in the way as it does, and  you forget to prioritise your morning run.

What’s important is what you decide to do the next morning.

When Life Happens – Get Back on Track

Whenever life interrupts and disrupts your new routine, your most important job is to get back on track as quickly as possible

Do what you can as soon as you notice the disruption.

Do a quick workout at home, or go for a run on the treadmill at your nearest gym if the weather is bad .

Try to squeeze in a few minutes of meditation or  something to grow your business if you overslept. make sure to slot this in before you get back to the rest of your day. Then get back on track with your newly established  routine as soon as possible.

You are not a failure if this happens so avoid the temptation to get upset or distracted by it.Try not to beat yourself up over it. Life happens – its gets in our way for everyone of us.

Awareness is Key

The most important this though is to be aware of the disruption and get back into your new habits the next morning if at all possible. Awareness is key here, remind yourself to get back on track until it routine is firmly back in place – most likely it will need to be a few days to reestablish the new routine

You’ll be glad you did when you start to see the results you’ve been hoping for.
